Better Than Apple

We didn’t fool Apple, but we got close! In this post we look back on the progress we’ve made and leave behind a summary of how others can attempt this challenge, starting from where we left off…

We developed a new way of attaching the 2D printed eyes. Also, we received a new Shapeways mask that is closer to a life-size version of James’ face. Using the painted mask and the Shapeways mask we are making steps in the right direction to unlocking this phone!

We have been fine tuning our new mask. Armed with precision measuring tools, we set out to scale our latest mask to James’ face. With of a new coat of paint, we believe that this was a step in the right direction!

We are almost there! The setbacks that were caused from the clay forced us to look into different options. Will one technique be better than the other? We will find out!

The mask is beginning to really come together with the addition of James’ 2D printed eyes. We also lay out the remainder of our project schedule as well as the outlook on our final Project.

Complications with adding clay to the 3D print of James’ face and our first signs of success with iPhone’s facial recognition software are leading to breakthroughs within our project.

Upon obtaining access to a new scanner, we were finally able to get an image that we felt could crack the iPhone. After a long two-day printing process, we have a new mask to play with.

After waiting over 12 hours for our first print to complete, we have what some would people would call a ‘rough’ draft of our face! We still have a lot of work left, but we are looking up in terms of success!
